It has come to be known as "March Madness," but the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships are more properly remembered as moments of great jubilation and exuberance. The celebrations that mark the conclusion of 59 years of great games have changed in some ways through the years. The postgame net cuttings didn't become traditional until the 1960s and the trophy presentations in the early years were formalities witnessed by only a handful of fans who remained in the arena. But the celebration itself always has included moments of thrill, admiration and high achievement. And spontaneity.
