Lauren Cacciamani and Bonnie Bremner of Division I champion Penn State highlight this year's GTE Academic All-America Women's Volleyball Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cacciamani and Bremner are among a group of five first-team members in the university and college divisions who made the first team for the second consecutive year.
Cacciamani was named as the most outstanding player in the 1999 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship after compiling 20 kills in the Nittany Lions' three-game sweep of Stanford in the title match.
Bremner, who joined Cacciamani on the all-tournament team, was the Big Ten Conference player of the year in 1997 and 1998 and was named the university division's GTE Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for the second straight season.
During their four years at Penn State, Cacciamani and Bremner helped the Nittany Lions to a 77-3 conference record and an unbeaten slate at home.
Also named to the university
division's first team for the second straight time were Carolyn Clevenger of Georgia Tech and Cindy Vojtech of Fordham.
In the college division, Ushi Patel of Rochester Institute of Technology was named team member of the year, and Lynn Olsen of Wisconsin-Whitewater was a repeat selection on the first team.
The GTE Academic All-America Teams are selected by CoSIDA members. Team members are varsity starters or key reserves who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
