Bernard M. Muir, NCAA director of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, operations, has accepted a position as associate director for student-athlete welfare at the University of Notre Dame.
Muir will assume his new responsibilities August 1.
Muir joined the staff in August 1992 as assistant director of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship and was promoted to his current position in August 1998.
Among his duties have been administering all policies and procedures relating to tickets for the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, administering the men's and women's basketball officiating programs, monitoring the actions of other select committees within the NCAA governance structure as it pertains to the work of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee, and serving as primary liaison to institutions participating in the Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
Before joining the NCAA, Muir was a compliance assistant at Auburn University and an events director for Streetball Partners International, Inc.
At Notre Dame, he will be responsible for administration of all elements of student-athlete welfare, including working the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and the university's student-athlete advisory committee.
Muir's wife, Liz, an NCAA membership services representative II, also will be leaving the staff.
