The NCAA News

Two male tennis players, a women's lacrosse star and a women's track and field standout have been named Academic All-America Team Members of the Year in their respective divisions.

The four student-athletes highlight the GTE Academic All-America Spring Men's and Women's At-Large Teams announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Virginia Commonwealth University tennis player Daniel Andersson, the nation's top-ranked Division I player for most of the season, was recognized as the Team Member of the Year in the men's university division, while Jen Adams, a women's lacrosse player from the University of Maryland, College Park, won the honor in the women's university division.

College division Team Members of the Year were tennis player Christian Witt of Barry University and track and field athlete Kate L'Armand of Widener University.

Anderson is a three-time tennis all-American who led his team to a runner-up finish in the Division I Men's Tennis Championships.

Adams set a single-season NCAA record with 136 points this season, leading her team to a 21-1 record and its sixth straight National Collegiate Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Witt, the top-ranked player in Division II, led his team to a berth in the Division II Men's Tennis Championship, while L'Armand is a seven-time champion in Middle Atlantic States Conference track and field events.

The GTE Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member CoSIDA. Nominees are varsity starters or key reserves who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
