The NCAA Foundation has entered a new era in its ongoing effort to enhance the welfare of NCAA student-athletes.

Now under the leadership of Marion B. Peavey, former vice-president for development and alumni relations at the University of Delaware, the Foundation is a greater force than ever for raising and providing funds for important educationally related initiatives involving student-athletes and students with ties to athletics.

Peavey is responsible for directing all of the Foundation's fund-raising and development efforts. He also oversees management of the Foundation to ensure that funds are available to support present and projected needs.

Peavey acts as an advocate and spokesperson for the Foundation and works to assure that its mission, programs and policies are articulated and communicated clearly to the general public.

"We have many programs that benefit student-athletes across the country, and we are especially fortunate to have a strong national board that is actively involved in acquiring funding for a number of existing programs," Peavey said.

The Foundation was founded in 1988 to generate funds through private gifts in support of programs that enable student-athletes to participate fully in the college com-
munity.

Foundation programs also help student-athletes achieve successful academic and athletics experiences and prepare student-athletes to become effective citizens and productive citizens.

The Foundation currently is involved in nine key programs, which are detailed elsewhere on this page.

"These high-quality programs can be realized only in a climate of financial security," Peavey said. "It is the NCAA's and the NCAA Foundation's desire for student-athletes to experience a sense of honor and decency, a pride in academic proficiency and a feeling of joy and pleasure in both work and play.

"Our strength has been to attract student-athletes of the highest competence. We have succeeded in convincing a growing number of generous friends that our specialized programs fill the educational and leadership needs of our student-athletes. Our friends and colleagues will support their beliefs through gifts to the NCAA Foundation."

NCAA Foundation Mission Statement

"To celebrate, promulgate and generate broad support for the very positive role intercollegiate athletics plays in our society by means of programs that enhance the present and future experience of the student-athlete; build awareness of the positive impact of intercollegiate athletics; and pursue development resources to independently support these activities."
