Four board members of the NCAA Foundation have been presented with the Flying Wedge Award, representing their gift support and overall leadership on the Foundation Board.

During recent NCAA Foundation Board activities, NCAA President Cedric W. Dempsey presented the awards to:

* Edwin Lupberger, New Orleans, president of Nesher Investments and former chair of Entergy, for his support of the annual Foundation Leadership Conference.

* James T. Morris, Indianapolis, chairman and chief executive officer of IWC Resources Corporation and Foundation Board chair, for his leadership efforts.

* George M. Steinbrenner III, New York, principal< owner of the New York Yankees, for his major gift support and outstanding leadership.

* Randall L. Tobias, Indianapolis, chairman emeritus of Eli Lilly and Company, for his leadership efforts in securing support for the NCAA headquarters building and his support for ongoing programs of the Foundation.

Each of the honorees received a miniature sculpture of the Flying Wedge, the full-scale version of which is located in the front entrance of the new NCAA Hall of Champions. The bronze sculpture illustrates college football of the 1900s, the brutality of which eventually led to the formation of the NCAA.

"The NCAA and the NCAA Foundation express appreciation to these four leaders for support of student-athletes and the programs of the NCAA Foundation," said Marion B. Peavey, executive director of the Foundation .
