Dates and sites:
First round -- to be completed by November 19 at campus sites; second round -- to be completed by November 26 at campus sites; quarterfinals -- to be completed by December 3 at campus sites; finals -- December 8 and 10 at Ericsson Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina.Field: Thirty-two teams.
Selection date: November 13.
1999 champion: Indiana.
Contending teams: Indiana, Virginia, San Jose State, Southern Methodist.
Players to watch: Chris Humphreys (San Jose State), Conor Casey (Portland), Ryan Coiner (San Diego).
DIVISION II
Dates and sites:
First round -- November 11-12 at campus sites; quarterfinals -- November 18-19 at campus sites; finals -- November 30-December 3 on the campus of a participating institution.Field: Sixteen teams, with two teams chosen from each of the eight geographical regions.
1999 champion: Southern Connecticut State.
Contending teams: Francis Marion, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Wheeling Jesuit, Barry, Lewis, C.W. Post.
Players to watch: Joel Bailey (Wheeling Jesuit), Andrew Barks (Lewis), Oliver Travieso (C.W. Post).
DIVISION III
Dates and sites:
First round -- November 8 at campus sites; regionals -- November 10-12 at campus sites; quarterfinals -- November 19 at campus sites; finals -- November 24-26 on the campus of a participating institution.Field: Forty-four teams chosen at large.
1999 champion: St. Lawrence.
Contending teams: Williams, Trinity (Texas), St. Lawrence, Ohio Wesleyan.
Players to watch: Dustin Crooker (St. Lawrence), Matthew Doran (Johns Hopkins), Mark Foster (Wisconsin-Oshkosh).
Fact -- If Virginia makes the 2000 championship field, the Cavaliers' streak of consecutive NCAA bids reaches 20. Saint Louis set the record with 23 straight tournament appearances from 1959-81, during which the Billikins won 10 national championships.
