The NCAA Core-Course Review 2000 Update will be mailed to the nation's high schools from the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse in the next few weeks.
The update packets also will be mailed to the Clearinghouse's primary contact at Divisions I and II member institutions after the high-school mailing is completed.
This year's packet is significantly different from the previous two packets sent to high schools as a result of an ongoing dialogue with secondary school representatives from several national organizations.
Notable changes in this year's update include:
Elimination of the 75 percent curriculum content requirements;
Acceptance of some nontraditionally taught courses; and
A reduction in the number of forms secondary school personnel need to submit.
The changes reflect the NCAA's goal to more closely align core-course requirements with standards already established at the high-school level.
Secondary school personnel are being asked to return the core-course submission forms and/or high-school update information by March 15 in order to receive an updated list of NCAA-approved core courses to use in time to counsel students for the 2000-01 school year.
