Conferences: The Sun Belt Conference extended a membership invitation to the University of Idaho, effective with the 2001-02 academic year.
Milestones: Saint John's University (Minnesota) head men's ice hockey coach John Harrington won his 100th game as a collegiate head coach with a 3-2 win over the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, November 20. Harrington, a member of the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic hockey teams, has guided the Johnnies to a 100-63-12 record with the program. The winningest hockey coach in school history, Harrington has led the Johnnies to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs five times and the NCAA Division III tournament twice during his tenure ... Tom Penders, head men's basketball coach at George Washington University, won his 500th game in a 88-76 win over the University of South Florida. Penders is 16th among active men's coaches with a 502-331 record in 29 seasons ... University of Illinois, Champaign, head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger reached the 300-victory level in a win over the University of Texas, Pan American ... Pat Summitt, head women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, became just the second coach in Division I to amass 700 victories when her Lady Vols beat Wisconsin December 5.
