Donohoe hired as director of women's basketball operations
Sue Donohoe, former associate commissioner of the Southland Conference, has been hired as the NCAA Director of the Division I Women's Basketball Championship, operations.
Donohoe becomes the second administrator hired for the newly created Division I women's basketball staff at the national office, working with Donna J. Noonan, who was appointed as vice-president for the Division I Women's Basketball Championship in September.
Donohoe, who was serving as chair of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee, will be in charge of day-to-day administration of the championship, including duties related to tickets, officiating and game management.
Donohoe became the assistant commissioner of the Southland Conference in 1996 before she was promoted to associate commissioner in July 1998. Her duties included directing the conference championship program and serving as the league's senior woman administrator.
Before joining the conference, Donohoe was the associate director of athletics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, since 1994, where she directed the Lady Razorback Foundation, among other duties.
Donohoe was involved in coaching before that, serving as an assistant women's basketball coach at Arkansas from 1993 to 1994, and as an assistant women's basketball coach at Stephen F. Austin State University from 1991 to 1993.
Donohoe is a 1981 graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where she earned her bachelor of science degree. She also obtained her master's degree from Louisiana Tech while working there as an assistant women's basketball coach. She became a high-school teacher and coach after that, working in two Texas school districts until landing the assistant coaching job at Stephen F. Austin.
In addition to having served on the Women's Basketball Rules Committee, Donohoe's other NCAA experience includes having been a game management liaison for the Men's Final Four in 1998 and for the Midwest Regional in 1997. She also assisted as a tournament manager for the Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in 1998.
