Field: Thirty-two teams will be selected.

Dates and sites: Sixteen first-round games will be played at campus sites and must be completed by Sunday, November 21. Second-round games will be conducted at campus sites and must be completed by Sunday, November 28. Third-round games must be completed by Sunday, December 5. The semifinals and final will be played at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, Friday, December 10, and Sunday, December 12.

Championship notes: Santa Clara, which made it to last year's semifinals before falling to eventual champion Indiana, started this season 10-0 and is expected to contend for the championship title. Indiana is looking to repeat but suffered two losses early in the season to Saint Louis and Yale ... Saint Louis, a 10-time champion, is looking to get back into the championship game for the first time since 1974 ... Other contenders include Duke, which upset 1998 semifinalist Maryland in an early-season game.
