Division I Women's Soccer

Field: The championship provides for a 48-team, single-elimination tournament. Two teams, which may include automatic-qualifying conference representatives, will be selected from each of six regions.

Dates and sites: All preliminary-round games will be conducted at campus sites. Sixteen first-round matches will be played Wednesday, November 10; 16 second-round matches will be completed by November 14; eight third-round matches will be conducted by November 21; and the quarterfinals will be held November 26, 27 or 28. The semifinals and final will be held at Spartan Stadium at San Jose State December 3 and 5.

Championship notes: Defending champion Florida began the season with an 11-0 record. Santa Clara also is off to an 11-0 start and is looking to get back into championship contention. Florida defeated the Broncos, 1-0, in last year's semifinals ... North Carolina, a 14-time champion, is still in the mix despite losses to top-ranked Santa Clara and Penn State. Penn State has lost only twice, once to defending champion Florida and once to Duke.
