Men's golf regionals to include 17 institutions

The Division II Men's Golf Committee voted to expand its championship at the regional level during its annual meeting July 13-16 in Lake Tahoe, California.

Starting this season, regional play will be expanded to include 17 institutions as well as the top five individuals not from those schools.

The committee also discussed several issues regarding realignment and took the following actions:

  • Reviewed the district and regional alignments and instructed the staff liaison to forward realignment memorandums to the following 11 institutions: Longwood College; St. Paul's College; Virginia Union University; Christian Brothers University; Lincoln Memorial University; Arkansas Tech University; Henderson State University; Southern Arkansas University; University of Arkansas, Monticello; Winona State University; and Tusculum College.

  • Voted that the members of the Heartland Conference should be assigned to District 5 because of future growth potential in that region. Members of the Heartland Conference that sponsor men's golf are: Texas Wesleyan University, St. Mary's University (Texas), St. Edward's University, Drury College, Lincoln University (Missouri) and Rockhurst College.

    In other action, the committee named the following host institutions for the May 1-3, 2000, regionals: South -- Rollins College; West -- California State University, Bakersfield; and North -- Lewis University.

    The committee also selected the following sites and host institutions for next four championships: 2000 -- Turlock Golf and Country Club (California State University, Stanislaus, host); 2001 -- The Meadows (Grand Valley State University, host); 2002 -- Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort (Rollins, host); and 2003 -- Sun River Resort (California State University, Chico, host).
