Track coaches choose academic award winners for 1999
The United States Track Coaches Association has announced the teams and individuals that have earned its all-academic honors for outdoor track and field for 1999.
To qualify, individuals must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.250 (4.000 scale), completed two semesters or three quarters, and have participated in their NCAA division outdoor track and field championships.
Teams are eligible for the honor if its members have a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average as a group.
Among the 144 individual recipients are five student-athletes who won NCAA titles in their respective outdoor championships: Nebraska Wesleyan University's Matt Byington, Division III men's 800-meter run; Fort Hays State University's Janet Eck, Division II women's high jump; University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point's Sara Groshek, Division III women's javelin throw; St. Olaf College's Jayna Mathieu, Division III women's 1,500-meter run; and Calvin College's Sara Veltkamp, Division III women's 1,600-meter relay.
