Student-athletes reprimanded in men's, women's basketball
Two reprimands have been issued to basketball players in Division II.
The NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee has reprimanded Salem-Teikyo University student-athlete Charles Dinkins for inappropriate behavior during the quarterfinals of the 1999 Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
Specifically, Dinkins spat on an opposing player from Metropolitan State College of Denver.
The Division II committee has issued a public reprimand of Dinkins. Additionally, the committee will withhold Dinkin's per diem and transportation payment to Salem-Teikyo for his participation in the quarterfinals. Since the NCAA has already reimbursed Salem-Teikyo for Dinkin's expenses, the university will be asked to submit a check to be returned to the NCAA. The committee also decided to suspend Dinkins for one game in the next NCAA championship in which he would otherwise be eligible.
Women's basketball
The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has reprimanded North Dakota State University for an incident of misconduct during the 1999 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship.
Specifically, the official traveling party from North Dakota State did not attend a mandatory function at the North Central regional tournament held in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The basketball committee encourages social events at regional competition in order to foster good sportsmanship and enhance the cham-pionship experience for the student-athlete. The committee reaffirmed its support for those events in making this decision.
