Women's soccer committee issues reprimand to assistant coach
The NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee has reprimanded Jorge Vela, University of Southern California assistant women's soccer coach, for inappropriate comments and behavior toward game officials during the second round of the 1998 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
Specifically, Vela used profane language and displayed a disrespectful attitude toward the game referee. The committee decided to issue a public reprimand to Vela and the university.
"The committee was very disappointed in this behavior and strongly believes that the championship should not be tarnished by such acts," said Debra Warren, chair of Division I Women's Soccer Committee. "This type of action only serves to discredit the coach, Southern California and the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship."
