Four members selected to fill new Presidents Council positions

Four new members will join the Division III Presidents Council at its August meeting. These positions were created when the membership passed Proposal No. 26 at the 1999 NCAA Convention, expanding the Council from 11 members to 15.

He currently serves as chair of the board of trustees at the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education, and he is a member of the executive committee of the Ohio Foundation of

Independent Colleges.

DiBiasio's term will expire in January 2004, and he is not eligible for reelection.

Muriel A. Moore

Watson's term will expire in January 2001, and she is eligible for reelection.

Additional Presidents Council nominations sought for two spots

Nominations are now being sought for Division III chief executive officers to serve on the Division III Presidents Council. There will be two vacancies created by the January 2000 term expirations of Gordon A. Haaland, president of Gettysburg College, and Judson H. Taylor, president of State University College at Cortland.

The deadline for submission of interest (in writing) is August 30. (Because the NCAA is moving its national headquarters between now and the deadline, all submissions should be sent either prior to July 20 or after August 3 to avoid technical difficulties. After August 3, nominations may be e-mailed or faxed to the new fax number at 317/917-6808.)

The Presidents Council's nominations subcommittee will review the submissions and recommend a slate to the Presidents Council. Also, candidates who receive the endorsement of at least 10 fellow Division III chief executive officers will automatically be placed on the ballot. Previously nominated individuals will remain eligible.

The following preferences will be considered, in priority order: from Regions 1 and 2; ethnic minority; undergraduate enrollment of 4,000 or more; and/or public institution. The Presidents Council also is encouraging nominations of representatives from single-sex institutions.

The recommendations of the nominations subcommittee -- and any additional individuals who have been endorsed by 10 or more colleagues -- will be forwarded on to the Presidents Council for review at its October 28 meeting.

The final ballot will then be forwarded to Division III chief executive officers for voting in early December.
