Raizk announces retirement after 52 years
Wilmington (Ohio) coach Fred Raizk has announced plans to retire. He has been head coach of six different sports during his 52-year tenure.
Raizk began his coaching career at the school in 1947 as head football coach, a position he held for nine seasons. From 1947 to 1961, he led the baseball and track squads and served as head men's basketball coach from 1951 to 1972. Raizk also helped establish the Wilmington golf program in 1958, a position he has held since that time. In addition to guiding the men's soccer program for three seasons, Raizk also was athletics director, dean of men and a member of the school's faculty.
Raizk was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1991 and the school renamed its basketball arena after him in 1997.
Raizk earned a degree from Wilmington in 1936 and a master's degree at Ohio State.

John W. Adams chosen as coordinator of men's basketball officiating at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Adams, who succeeds Jim Lessig, most recently has been an officiating observer for the Indiana High School Athletic Association and the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference appointed Will Prewitt as associate commissioner. Prewitt has been sports information director at Tusculum.
ASSOCIATIONS
The Orange Bowl Committee hired Bryan P. Moynihan as director of ticket operations, Charmaine Milton as events coordinator and Cheryl Haywood as sponsor relations coordinator. The committee also promoted Jeff Merk to director of events. Merk was an event manager.

AGREEMENTS
The AXA/Equitable Liberty Bowl, Mountain West Conference and Conference USA announced a three-year agreement to feature the champion of each conference in the bowl. The game will be televised on ESPN at 4 p.m., Central time, December 31.

Georgia gymnast Karin Lichey named a Honda Award winner as the top woman collegiate athlete in her sport. In addition to earning recognition as Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Year and capturing the maximum number of first-team all-America honors, Lichey, a senior, helped lead Georgia to its second straight NCAA team championship.
Senior Duke tennis player Vanessa Webb selected to receive the Honda Award as the top collegiate woman athlete in her sport. Webb is a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year.
John Crouthamel and the late David Nelson selected as recipients of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's 1999 John L. Toner Award. Crouthamel currently serves as athletics director at Syracuse and is a member of the NCAA Football Issues Committee. Nelson was commissioner of the Yankee Conference from 1989 until his death in 1991. He also was athletics director at Delaware and Hillsdale. The award is presented to the athletics director who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and shown outstanding dedication to college athletics and particularly college football.
DEATHS
Former Morehead State assistant athletics director John E. (Sonny) Allen died May 13. He was 72.
