Methodist rally overcomes Florida Southern in II/III golfAfter trailing Florida Southern for the first three rounds of the Divisions II and III Women's Golf Championships, Methodist fired a final-round 314 and captured its third team title in the four-year history of the event.

The tournament was held May 12-15 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Monarchs' final-round score of 314 -- the low round of the day -- was enough to catch Florida Southern. Methodist finished with a total score of 1,282 to claim the championship. Florida Southern carded a team score of 1,285, narrowly missing its first title.

Rollins was third with a score of 1,360, Hardin-Simmons placed fourth with a 1,368 total and Lewis was fifth with a 1,380 score.

Florida Southern, after leading the tournament for the first three rounds, was runner-up for the second straight season. Trailing by 18 shots after one day of play, Methodist gradually chipped away at the Florida Southern margin. Entering the final round, Methodist had cut the lead to three strokes.

Tracey Gage and Christina Arriola fired final-round scores of 76 to lead Methodist to the title.

Lisa Cave of Florida Southern took home medalist honors, edging Gage by one stroke. Cave shot a four-day total of 313 and led the last two rounds of the tournament.

Arriola, Shanna Nagy of Florida Southern and Vicki Matkovich of Longwood posted tournament totals of 316 to tie for third place.
