Three members appointed to director level at national office
Three individuals have been named to chief-aide level positions in the national office replacing employees who will not be relocating when the national office moves to Indianapolis this summer.
In the marketing, licensing and promotions area, John Johnson has been named director of special events and will replace Will J. Rudd, while James W. Shaffer has rejoined the staff to replace Jeffery S. Hiller as director of the Hall of Champions.
Also, Donnetta Moorman has been named director of professional development and will replace Stanley D. Johnson.
Johnson
Before joining the NCAA, Johnson had been with the Kansas City Royals baseball team for almost 10 years.
He joined the Royals in 1989 as assistant director of stadium operations, assisting with the daily operation of Kauffman Stadium. He directed and managed the event staff and coordinated activities with internal and external customers.
In 1995, he was promoted to director of administration, assuming responsibility for the administration of the ticket department, in addition to his previous duties.
Johnson was promoted again in 1998, this time to senior director for stadium administration. Among other duties, Johnson was responsible for providing oversight and direction for a 400-member staff. Reporting areas included event operations, ground crew, landscape, revenue development and stadium operations.
Johnson prioritized, planned and executed all capital projects, as well as major repair and maintenance projects. He served as project manager for both Phase I of the Kauffman Stadium renovation ($11.2 million project) and the Kauffman Stadium seat replacement project ($6.5 million).
Before joining the Royals, Johnson was director of intramural sports at the University of Kansas.
Johnson has bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas.
Moorman
Moorman is being promoted to her new position after having served as a professional development program coordinator since April 1998. Previously, Moorman worked for the Indiana State Personnel Department as the director of employment administration. She was responsible for managing staffing needs for the state of Indiana and for developing and implementing training programs for managerial and professional employees.
Before that, Moorman worked for United Airlines and Keebler Company in organizational design, training and development, recruiting, affirmative action and policy develop-
ment.
She was responsible for the development and implementation of targeted marketing and advertising campaigns for United Airlines that increased sales by $1.3 million and increased brand recognition by 90 percent.
Moorman earned her degree in education from Harris Teachers College in St. Louis.
Shaffer
Shaffer has extensive leadership, administrative, organizational, marketing, promotional and communications experience in the private sector, higher education and intercollegiate athletics.
Shaffer previously was on the NCAA staff from 1976 to 1984, serving as editor of The NCAA News, assistant director of public relations and promotions, assistant director of NCAA Productions, assistant director of the NCAA Football Television Plan, director of media services, and executive producer of NCAA Productions.
He managed the NCAA Television
News Service in New York, the NCAA Library of Films, the NCAA's network television and radio promotional series; public relations; and media services. He also served as a staff liaison to the NCAA Football Television Committee and assisted in administration of the NCAA Football Television Plan. He also assisted in development of the NCAA marketing and licensing programs.
Shaffer most recently has been a corporate officer and vice-president of corporate affairs for IWC Resources and Indianapolis Water Company, its principal subsidiary. Shaffer developed IWCR's comprehensive corporate affairs strategy and is responsible for management of its corporate affairs department.
He also served as vice-president for public affairs at Butler University from 1989 to 1991. From 1984 to 1989, Shaffer was the first full-time commissioner of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. He also was sports information director at the University of Northern Iowa from 1974 to 1976.
He is a graduate of Michigan State University.
