Division I Softball

Field: Forty-eight teams are selected for championship play. Six teams will participate at each of eight regional sites. The Women's College World Series will include the eight regional winners.

Dates and sites: Regional play will be May 20-23 at campus locations, and the Women's College World Series will be May 27-31 at Don Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

Championship notes: Defending champion Fresno State had played in four championship games without claiming a title until breaking the curse in 1998 ... The title has been claimed by schools in only three states: California (10), Arizona (5) and Texas (2), and only five institutions have won a title.
