Spring Championships Preview -- National Collegiate Men's Volleyball

Field: The championship field includes four teams -- one each from the West, Midwest and East regions and one selected at large.

Dates and site: The semifinals begin May 6 at UCLA, and the championship will be May 8.

Championship notes: Defending champion UCLA has won two of its 17 national titles after losing more than six matches during regular-season play, which it has done this year. The last time the Bruins accomplished the feat was 1975 ... If the top-ranked Long Beach State men's squad can match the 1998 title claimed by the 49ers women's team, it would be the second time in NCAA history the both volleyball crowns were claimed by one institution in the same academic year. Stanford did it in 1996-97.
