Soccer coach reprimanded

The NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee has reprimanded G. Guerrieri, Texas A & M University, College Station, women's soccer coach, for inappropriate comments and behavior toward game officials during the second round of the 1998 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.

Specifically, Guerrieri indicated that he would encourage his players to "take out" players on the opposing team since, in his opinion, fouls were not being called. The Division I committee has issued a public reprimand of Guerrieri and the university.

"The committee was disappointed in Mr. Guerrieri's behavior and wants to emphasize that these components have no place in NCAA Championships competition," said Debra Warren, committee chair. "Our coaches have a responsibility to conduct themselves appropriately at all times."
