Sports Sciences Newsletter -- In memoriam

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Susan Grossman, who served as the director of Prevention Programs and Services at the University of Virginia's Institute of Substance Abuse Studies.

Of her many contributions, Dr. Grossman may best be known for her commitment to and passion for prevention work on behalf of student-athletes. The APPLE (Athletic Prevention Programming and Leadership Education) peer education program that she and Joe Geick developed at Virginia has been widely and successfully disseminated to many NCAA member institutions throughout the country.

Susan will be missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire many of us for years to come. Let us celebrate her life's accomplishments as we grieve our loss.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the University of Virginia Fund, designated for the Institute for Substance Abuse Studies, in care of Bonnie Ford, P.O. Box 3446, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903.
