Sports sponsorship: Beginning with the 1999-00 academic year, Carroll College no longer will offer wrestling as a varsity sport. Only three student-athletes participated in wrestling at Carroll this year, and college officials also point to a lack of conference competition. The Midwest Conference, in which Carroll competes, had only five institutions offer wrestling this year ... The University of Southern Maine has announced the addition of men's and women's lacrosse to its varsity athletics program in the 2000-01 season ... The University of Scranton has announced the addition of women's varsity lacrosse for the spring 2000 season. With the addition of women's lacrosse, nine of Scranton's 19 sports will be offered for women.
Milestones: Dave Vander Meulen, University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, 400 victories in men's basketball ... Pat Glispin, Clark University (Massachusetts), 300 victories in women's basketball ... Tony Shaver, Hampden-Sydney College, 250 victories in men's basketball.
Conferences: The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association has granted Vassar College immediate membership. Vassar will participate in all single-site conference championships in the 1999-00 academic year, and it will participate in a full conference schedule in 2000-01. Current members of the conference are: Clarkson University; Hamilton College; Hobart and William Smith Colleges; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; St. Lawrence University; Skidmore College; and Union College (New York).
