Washington (Missouri) volleyball coach retires
Teri Clemens retired as head volleyball coach at Washington (Missouri) at the end of the 1998 season. Clemens' winning percentage of .873 is the highest of any NCAA Division III volleyball coach.
Clemens, who finished with a 529-77 record, joined the Washington (Missouri) program as head coach in 1985. During her tenure, she led teams to seven NCAA Division III titles. She also coached national teams at the 1991 and 1994 U.S. Olympic Festivals. In 1994, the team earned a bronze medal. Clemens earned coach-of-the-year honors from Asics/Volleyball Monthly in 1989 and 1992 and from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 1991, 1994 and 1996.
As a student-athlete at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State), Clemens played softball, field hockey and tennis, capturing recognition as female athlete of the year and MVP for all three teams in 1978.
Washington (Missouri) hired Rich Luenemann, head coach at St. Francis (Illinois) for the past 18 seasons, to succeed Clemens.

Cal State Sacramento selected Debby Colberg as interim athletics director ... Andrea Myers selected as athletics director at Indiana State ... Westminster (Pennsylvania) athletics director Joseph B. Fusco announced plans to step down, effective June 30. Fusco, a former football coach at the school from 1972-90, will retain his duties as a professor of physical education through the 1999-2000 school year.

La Salle elevated John Lyons to associate athletics director. For the past 16 years, Lyons has been head swimming coach. He will continue to fulfill his coaching duties ... Debra Gore-Mann appointed as associate athletics director for finance and operations at Stanford ... Texas Christian hired Kevin O'Connell as associate athletics director for varsity sports to succeed Mel Thomas. O'Connell has been senior associate athletics director of external affairs at Miami (Ohio).

During the 1998 season, McDaniel was tight ends coach and assistant recruiting coordinator at Southwest Missouri State. The school also announced the resignation of assistant coach Levern Belin, who accepted a similar post at Connecticut. Belin coached outside linebackers for one season and defensive ends for four seasons ... Kent chose Paul Haynes as secondary coach. During a two-year stint with Northern Iowa, Haynes coached the kickoff return team and spent one year as running backs coach and one year as secondary coach.

Men's soccer--East Carolina chose Devin O'Neill as head coach ... Patrick Bourgeacq hired as head men's coach at Cornell College to replace Corey Tafoya, who resigned. Bourgeacq spent last season as an assistant women's soccer coach and men's and women's goalkeeper coach at Grinnell ... Brendan Nash named as head coach at Bucknell.
Men's soccer assistant--California appointed Todd Higley as an assistant coach.
Women's soccer--Kathleen Penner resigned as head coach at Belmont ... Ron Rainey appointed as head coach at Ball State. The program is scheduled to begin competition this fall. Rainey was an assistant at Iowa during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. ... Colorado College hired Greg Ryan as head coach to succeed Nicole Crepeau, who resigned after five seasons. Ryan has been head coach at Southern Methodist since 1996 ... Rena Richardson chosen as head coach at Northeast Louisiana ... South Dakota appointed Carrie Plute as head coach. The program is scheduled to begin competition in the fall of 1999. In 1997 and 1998, Plute was assistant women's soccer coach at Wheeling Jesuit ... Women's soccer assistants--Texas added Jennifer Renola and Antonio Capasso as assistants. Renola has been West Coast promotions manager for adidas America since 1997. Capasso competed professionally with the Montreal Impact A-League during 1997-98.
Softball--Pacific (Oregon) selected volleyball coach Melissa Jones as softball coach.
Softball assistant--Tammy Lehr accepted assistant softball coaching duties at Susquehanna.
Men's and women's swimming--McMurry selected Beverly Ball as head men's and women's coach.
Men's and women's tennis--Stevens Tech added Doug Brickel as men's and women's head coach ... Belmont head women's coach Nancy Griffith resigned. The school named Mark Srouji as interim head women's coach ... David Benjamin, head men's coach at Princeton since 1974, announced plans to retire after the 1999-2000 season. Benjamin also is executive director of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and will retain those duties following his retirement from coaching ... New Paltz State named Robert Bruley as head coach and event manager.
Men's and women's track and field--Susquehanna appointed Karen Brandt as women's head coach.
Men's and women's volleyball--Pam Allshouse resigned as head volleyball coach and assistant women's basketball coach at Heidelberg, effective May 15 ... Cornell College appointed Shannon Staton as volleyball coach to replace Lori Riha ... Cole Tallman became head coach at St. Thomas (Minnesota) to replace interim head coach Penny Starkey. Athletic training--Kent appointed Kim Peer as athletic training program coordinator.
Development--Penn State selected Tom Jackovic as associate director of development. Jackovic has been executive director of the Blue and White Club at Buffalo for the past year and a half.
Media relations--Buddy Pearson, director of media relations and marketing at Carson-Newman, resigned to accept an assistant sports information director slot at Tennessee Tech.
Precollegiate services--Central Connecticut State appointed Michael Ansarra director of precollegiate and access services.
Sports information--Davidson named assistant sports information director Rick Bender as interim sports information director for the remainder of the school year, replacing Emil Parker ... Will Roleson elevated to sports information director at Kent to replace assistant athletics director/sports information director Dale Gallagher. Roleson has been assistant sports information director since July of 1996.
Sports information assistant--Seton Hall assistant sports information director Patrick McBride resigned.
Sports marketing--Texas Christian added Ashby Porter as assistant director of sports marketing and Barry Vaughn as director of corporate sales.
Student-athlete services--Keith Roughton promoted to director of student-athlete services at Georgia Southern. Roughton, who replaces Scott Farmer, has been assistant director of the student-athlete services division since July 1, 1998.
Ticket operations--Binghamton public-address announcer Dave Simek promoted to full-time status and named coordinator for basketball ticket sales and summer camps.
CONFERENCES
Keanah Smith has been appointed assistant director of championships at Conference USA.
The Big Sky Conference named Doug Toole as coordinator of football officials.
Brad Stricklin selected as business manager at Conference USA. Stricklin has been an assistant athletics director at Georgia Southern since 1994.
The Big South Conference appointed Jill Deese as assistant commissioner for compliance. For the past 12 years, Deese has been assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator at Winthrop.
ASSOCIATIONS
John Rebelo elected as president of the 1999 Culligan Holiday Bowl to succeed Weldon Donaldson, who became chairman of the board. Rebelo is chairman and CEO of Peninsula Bank of San Diego. The following also have been elected as officers of the bowl: Jim Philion, president-elect; Joe Craver, vice-president; Bob Shumake, secretary; and Lisa Richards, treasurer.
Bill Topp named editor of Referee magazine, a monthly publication for sports officials. Topp is an NCAA Division I baseball umpire and high school and small college basketball and football official and has been with Referee Enterprises, Inc., for nine years. Referee Enterprises, Inc., publishes the magazine and manages the National Association of Sports Officials.

Susan Peal was selected as a membership services representative. Peal most recently was associate athletics director for compliance at Charleston Southern ...
