Field: The championship provides for a field of 64 teams competing in four regions.

Dates and sites: First/second rounds will be held March 12 and 14 or March 13 and 15 on campuses of competing institutions. Regionals will be conducted March 20 and 22 at Greensboro, North Carolina (East region), Cincinnati (Mideast region), Illinois State (Midwest region) and Southern California (West region). The semifinals and final will be March 26 and 28 at San Jose Arena in San Jose, California.

Championship notes: In 1998, Tennessee became the first team to win three straight titles. Louisiana Tech and Tennessee are the only teams to have competed in all 17 tournaments. Tennessee holds the most team titles with six and leads the nation with 61 tournament victories. Louisiana Tech is second in wins (51) and Stanford is third (32).
