Sports sponsorship: Softball, Emory University's newest varsity sport, made its debut on campus last month. Guiding the program is Penny Siqueiros, a former player and former assistant coach at Florida State University. Softball is the school's 18th sport overall and the ninth offered for women ... Lehman College recently announced that it will add women's water polo as a varsity sport. The team will be coached by Dan Maloney, who also coaches men's water polo at the college. The team will play a 12-game schedule this spring, beginning with a home debut on the first weekend in March.
Milestones: Phil Kahler, St. John Fisher College, 600 victories in women's basketball. The winningest active Division III women's basketball coach, Kahler has been the college's only coach since the beginning of the women's basketball program. Currently, the 64-year-old Kahler is experiencing serious health problems. Even though he may end up having to have his left leg amputated, Kahler has not missed a game and plans on returning to coach next year ... Dixie Jeffers, Capital University, 300 victories in women's basketball ... Bud Lewis, Wilmington College (Ohio), 300 victories in men's soccer ... John Rolli, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, 300 victories in men's ice hockey ...Tony Shaver, Hampden-Sydney College, 250 victories in men's basketball ...
