National Collegiate Men's and Women's Skiing

Field: A total of 74 men and 74 women are selected. There are four men's and four women's races. Individual positions are allocated to each region (East, West and Central) by the NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Committee.

Dates and sites: The championships will be held March 10-13 and hosted by Bates College. The Alpine (slalom and giant slalom) events will be at Sunday River; the Nordic (freestyle and classical cross country) races are at Black Mountain.

Championships notes: Returning champion Colorado is tied with Denver for all-time team championships with 14 ... Colorado's 2 1/2-point winning margin over second-place Utah last year was the narrowest team race since 1976, when Dartmouth and Colorado tied. That also was the last time Bates hosted. The next-closest was 1964, when Denver beat Dartmouth by 1.4 points ... Utah, which won in 1996 and 1997, has nine titles and Vermont has five. Dartmouth and Wyoming have two apiece ... No team but Colorado, Utah and Vermont has won since 1985, when Wyoming won ... No Eastern team has won since Vermont in 1994. Denver last won in 1973.
