National Collegiate Men's and Women's Rifle

Field: A maximum of 48 competitors will be selected to participate. The top eight or fewer teams in each team event and 40 or fewer individuals in each individual event will qualify.

Dates and site: The championships will be conducted March 12-13 at Norwich.

Championships notes: West Virginia continued its hold on the championships by edging Alaska Fairbanks by just three points last year. The title was the Mountaineers' fourth straight and 14th in the 19-year history of the championships. West Virginia finished second in each of the five championships that it did not win. The Mountaineers' winning effort in 1998 was sparked by Marcos Scrivner, who set a championships record of 396 in the team-competition air rifle event. Scrivner also had his team's best score in the smallbore portion with a total of 1,177 ... Alaska Fairbanks is the only other institution to win the title since 1987, edging West Virginia by seven points in 1994. The Nanooks' second-place finish last year was their fourth runner-up effort overall.
