Milestones: Gene Iba, Pittsburg State University, 300 wins in men's basketball ... Barbara Stevens, Bentley College, 500 wins in women's basketball. Stevens became the first women's basketball coach in New England history (and just the second one in Division II history) to surpass 500 wins with an 89-66 victory over Columbus State University earlier this season ... Mark Vernon, George Fox University, 300 wins in men's basketball ... New York Institute of Technology won its 500th men's basketball game January 6 with a 62-57 victory over Adelphi University.
Etc.: Former North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Noel W. Olson received the inaugural NCAA Division II Commissioners' Association Award of Merit December 3. The award is voted on by members of the NCAA Division II Commissioners' Association. "Noel Olson is an outstanding recipient of the first Division II Commissioners Award of Merit," said Barry Blizzard, commissioner of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. As commissioner of the North Central Conference from 1984 to 1997, Olson served on the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee and other NCAA championships committees.
