Bremner, Rickards head volleyball GTE Academic All-America teams
Bonnie Bremner, who helped lead Penn State to a runner-up finish in the 1998 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, has been named this year's university-division GTE Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in women's volleyball.
Stephanie Rickards of Moravian, a senior secondary education major, was named the Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in the college division.
Bremner is a three-time Big Ten Conference player of the year and finished among Division I leaders with a .440 hitting percentage.
The College Division also includes Melinda Almazan of Regis (Colorado), who was earlier named the Division II player of the year.
The GTE Academic All-America Teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Team members are varsity starters or key reserves who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
