Lennon promoted to VP level

Veteran staffer to lead Membership Services

Kevin C. Lennon has been promoted to the position of NCAA vice-president for membership services.

Lennon, formerly director of membership services, assumed his new duties December 1. He replaces John H. Leavens, who will assist with the transition and assume certain special projects. Leavens had announced earlier that he did not plan to relocate in Indianapolis.

Lennon has served at the director level since 1989, when he was promoted to director of compliance services. The position later was retitled when the compliance and legislative services staffs were merged.

He first joined the NCAA staff in 1986 as a legislative assistant. He left in 1988 to become the assistant commissioner of the Southwest Athletic Conference.

Lennon returned to the staff in 1989. He has had leadership experience in all functional areas of membership services, including academics, self-study and rules interpretations, and has engaged in significant committee liaison responsibilities.

Before joining the NCAA staff, Lennon worked as athletics promotions director at the University of Notre Dame.

Lennon has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Harvard University, where he captained the rugby team his senior year. He also has a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University and is a candidate for a doctorate from the University of Kansas.
