The Division III Presidents Council has endorsed a slate of four nominees to fill January 1999 vacancies on the Presidents Council.
This process is conducted in accordance with NCAA Bylaw 4.4.3.
Nominated for reappointment is Gloria Scott, president of Bennett College.
Nominated for appointment are: Bette Landman, president of Beaver College; Marlene Springer, president of the College of Staten Island; and Ronald Applbaum, president of Kean University.
At this time, all Division III chief executive officers may nominate additional candidates for these vacancies. At least 10 CEOs must nominate an individual for that person's name to be listed on the ballot.
Additional nominations will be due by December 4 and should be submitted to Daniel T. Dutcher, chief of staff for Division III, or Bridget Belgiovine, assistant chief of staff for Division III.
Every Division III chief executive officer will receive a ballot containing names of all the nominees as soon after the nomination deadline as possible. Ballots will be due to the NCAA by December 16.
The requirements that must be met, in any combination, by the four individuals chosen for the Council are: public institution chief executive officer, female chief executive officer, ethnic minority chief executive officer, and chief executive officer from Region Two (New York and Pennsylvania). Any additional nominees should fulfill at least one of the requirements.
The nominees were chosen from a pool of 41 candidates by the Division III Presidents Council's Nominations Subcommittee.
The three new vacancies were created by the expiration of three Council members' terms. The out-going members of the Council are: Judith L. Kuipers, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse; Robert W. Neff, president of Juniata College; and David L. Beckley, president of Rust College.
All of the new positions are four-year terms that begin in January 1999 immediately after the NCAA Convention and continue through the Convention in 2003. Individuals filling these vacancies will not be eligible for re-election.
