Division III Football

Field: The 16-team field includes four teams from each of four regions.

Dates and sites: First-round (November 21), quarterfinal (November 28) and semifinal (December 5) games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The championship game will be played December 12 in Salem, Virginia.

Championship notes: Mount Union has won the past two championships and three of the past five. Since losing to Wisconsin-La Crosse in the semifinals of the 1995 championship, Mount Union has won 35 consecutive games. The top-ranked Purple Raiders, which have the best winning percentage in college football in the 1990s, are ranked nationally in total offense and pass offense .... In the 25-year history of the championship, no team has dominated for a long period of time. Other than Mount Union's recent run, Augustana (Illinois) won four consecutive titles from 1983-86. However, the record for most appearances in the championship is 12, shared by Augustana (Illinois), Central (Iowa) and Ithaca.
