Division I Notes
Facilities: George Mason University has opened a new aquatics and fitness center. The $11.2 million, 66,000 square-foot, two-pool complex features a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool and a 25-yard recreational pool that can be used for local, state and regional competition. The facility also includes a fitness gallery, four classrooms, whirlpool and sauna.
Miscellaneous: Senior tailback Jerry Azumah of the University of New Hampshire became the all-time leading rusher and the all-time leading scorer (for a non-kicker) in NCAA Division I-AA history during the Wildcats' recent 31-19 victory over William and Mary. Azumah ran for 235 yards on 33 carries, rushed for one touchdown and returned a kickoff for 82 yards for another score. With 5,436 career rushing yards, Azumah eclipses the record set by Siena College's Reggie Greene last year (5,415). Azumah's 370 points surpasses the University of Idaho's Sheridan May (366). Azumah also needs just 163 all-purpose yards to break the Division I-AA record held by Kenny Gamble of Colgate University ... California Polytechnic State University has officially dropped the SLO from its name. The school will be referred to as Cal Poly in all releases, statistics and publications.
