Division III
Convention program among items for Council approval
When the Division III Presidents Council meets in Atlanta October 27, it is expected to address several issues regarding strategic planning, Convention planning, championships and financial aid.
The Presidents Council is expected to review the operations plans submitted by Division III and Association-wide committees and discuss the status of the committees' progress toward achieving their objectives.
The Council also is expected to approve the Division III Convention program, including schedules and topics for 1999. These items have been forwarded through the governance structure by the Ad Hoc Committee on Convention Planning, which has representation from the Management Council, the Presidents Council and the membership at large.
The Presidents Council also is expected to review and approve any proposed changes forwarded from the Management Council regarding Proposal No. 2-45 (Division III Championships -- Selection Principles and Automa- tic-Qualification Requirements) as it appears in the Second Publication of Proposed Legislation.
The Council will review several issues originating with the Division III Financial Aid and Awards Committee, including a recommendation that the NCAA enforcement staff contact institutions that have not submitted their awards of circumstance and nonathletics achievement awards by an established deadline in 1999.
The Council also will examine the recommendations of the financial aid committee to establish a five-year resubmission requirement for awards of circumstance and nonathletics achievement awards, as well as a proposed requirement that provisional members submit their awards for review no later than the fourth year of provisional membership.
Other Presidents Council agenda items include:
Review and approval of appointments to Division III committees for members with terms beginning January 1999. Management Council appointments will be forwarded to the membership for final ratification at the Convention.
A review of proposed legislation for the 1999 Convention.
A review of budgetary issues and cost-saving initiatives.
