Georgia State names head softball coachGeorgia State has selected Phyllis Guedry as head softball coach. Guedry succeeds Bob Heck, who helped establish the program in 1983. Heck also served as head coach for more than 14 years. Most recently, Guedry fulfilled recruiting, coaching and administrative duties as an assistant coach at LSU. Prior to joining the LSU staff, Guedry served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Nicholls State, for two seasons. In addition to working at numerous camps and clinics, Guedry led a 16-and-under American Softball Association team to a state championship and a berth in the national tournament in 1994. Collegiately, Guedry was a four-time letter winner in softball at Nicholls State and captured All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Freshman-of-the-Year honors in 1990. She also was an all-conference catcher.
Guedry has a bachelor of arts degree in general studies from Nicholls State.
