Division II Notes

Facilities: The Michigan Technological University Board of Control has approved the construction of a Hockey Educational Center. Michigan Tech men's ice hockey coach Tim Watters said the facility will provide the university with a high-quality learning and training complex. The center will include an expanded varsity locker room and sauna, along with a strength and conditioning room and a training room. Teaching facilities will include a classroom/study room, a multipurpose conference room and a video editing/conference room. Other features are an alumni reception room, players lounge, coaches offices and an equipment room. Construction will begin in September, with completion scheduled for next summer. The cost will be $1.3 million.

Sports sponsorship: Southern Connecticut State University has announced that it is discontinuing its men's wrestling program. "The Board of Athletic Control has been studying the overall sponsorship of all of our athletic programs and this is something that has been discussed at length over a period of several years," athletics director Darryl Rogers said. The wrestling program has been in existence since 1973-74 ... Wayne State University (Michigan) will add men's and women's ice hockey, beginning with the 1999-2000 season. Wayne State will offer 17 varsity sports with the additions.
