Wrestling rules clinic teleconference scheduled at 16 sites

The NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee will produce a live satellite rules clinic teleconference that will be interactive via telephone at noon Eastern time September 13.

This year, for the first time, those viewing the teleconference at sites other than the official NCAA sites may register their attendance by calling a toll-free number that will be flashed on the screen at a few unannounced times during the show. Those who intend to exercise this option, or anyone else wishing to view the program, may downlink the telecast at C Band-Galaxy 6, TX 5, 99 degrees west. To assist viewers in tuning in this program, a graphic advertising the telecast will appear on the satellite one-half hour before the show starts.

Those wishing to watch the teleconference as a group may gather at one of the following 16 official NCAA sites September 13: Central Missouri State University; Cornell University; George Mason University; University of Indianapolis; University of Iowa; Lehigh University; University of Nebraska, Lincoln; College of New Jersey; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Northwestern University; Ohio State University; University of Oklahoma; University of Pittsburgh; St. Thomas University (Minnesota); Stanford University; and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. For more information on exact campus location, interested parties should contact the wrestling coach at the appropriate institution.

This is the first year that all members of the coaching staff at any school with wrestling in any division are required to attend the clinic. Previously, only one full-time member of each Division I coaching staff was required to attend. As in the past, referees who wish to be eligible to officiate at any of the NCAA championships or NCAA-sponsored regional qualifiers must attend a clinic.

Those who did not attend the traditional first clinic at the National Wrestling Coaches Association convention August 15 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, or who will be unable to view the September 13 telecast will have one last opportunity to meet the attendance obligation. That clinic, which will be live, will be at 9 a.m. Central time October 18 at the Chicago O'Hare Hyatt.

Attendance at the official satellite sites and at the live clinic in Chicago will be taken by the use of attendance cards that will be distributed and collected at each site.

Contact Chris Farrow or Jill Sutton at the NCAA national office (913/339-1906) about accessing the program. Questions concerning the attendance requirement may be directed to Tim Pavlechko at the NCAA national office or to Mike Moyer, chair of the Wrestling Rules Committee, at George Mason University (703/993-3215).
