Baseball committee looks at determining game times in finals
An evaluation of the championship finals was primary topic of discussion during the Division II Baseball Committee's annual meeting July 21-24 in Bar Harbor, Maine.
During discussion, the committee agreed that it would determine the game times for the first two games in Bracket One and Bracket Two.
Currently, first-round games in Bracket One are played at specific times on the first Saturday, while first-round competition in Bracket Two is scheduled at specific times on Sunday.
The committee will recommend to the local organizing committee in Montgomery, Alabama, that game times for the afternoon contests be moved from 3:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The committee also agreed to review lodging concerns with the organizing committee.
In addition, the committee agreed that the pairings might be adjusted for games 13 and 14 to match teams that have not previously played or have not played each other since the first round.
The committee also discussed dates and sites for future championships and agreed that regional competition for the 1999 championship will be held May 13-15 and the championship finals will be conducted May 22-29 in Montgomery, Alabama.
Also, the committee determined that bids for the 2001 championship and future championships must be received by May 1, 1999. A list of requirements will be sent with the proposal. The committee will review the proposals and in-person presentations will be required of prospective hosts at the committee's annual meeting in 1999.
