Wynn retires as senior associate AD

Mary Jo Wynn retired as senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Southwest Missouri State, effective July 1. She closed her tenure with more than 40 years of service to the school.

Wynn initiated women's athletics at the school in 1958 with women's volleyball and tennis. Wynn also taught in the health, physical education and recreation department. She later coached swimming and track. In 1975, Wynn was appointed the first director of women's athletics. She organized the Southwest Missouri State Women's Athletics Hall of Fame and the Women's Alumni Athletes Association. Wynn was promoted to senior associate director of athletics during the 1996-97 school year.

A 1953 graduate of Southwest Missouri State, Wynn received the school's Outstanding Alumni Award in 1995. In 1998, the school renamed its top academic award for female student-athletes the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Senior Female Scholar Athlete award in Wynn's honor.

Wynn earned a master's degree from Northern Colorado and a doctorate from Oregon.

Frank White assumed the assistant athletics director position at Colgate, replacing Kenny Gamble, who accepted a position with Adidas. Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) acting athletics director Maryelizabeth Grace named associate executive director for compliance and championships with the Patriot League. Grace succeeds Bill Smith, who resigned to become director of compliance at Iowa State.

The Centennial Conference accepted Washington and Lee as a two-year provisional associate member in the sport of wrestling.

Karen Rosenzweig accepted the position of assistant public relations director at the Pacific-10 Conference. Rosenzweig has been assistant media relations director at California since 1995.

Bradford Evans selected as assistant commissioner for media relations at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The California Collegiate Athletic Association named Joseph Lang full-time media relations director, succeeding Charles Bentley.

The Colonial Athletic Association named Dr. Richard R. Eakin, president of East Carolina University, as chair of its council of presidents. Bruce Madej named top sport public relations person in the state of Michigan by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. Madej currently serves as assistant athletics director for media relations at Michigan.

Canisius elected Mary Achramovitch, basketball and volleyball; Bill Maloney, cross country and track; Mike Panepinto, football; Gary Roessler, hockey and baseball; Mike Smrek, basketball; and General Bass, head women's tennis coach from 1983-96, to its sports hall of fame.
