Association wide -- Women's Gymnastics Committee prepares new seeding guidelines
The Women's Gymnastics Committee concentrated on establishing pairing guidelines for future championships during its annual meeting July 6-10 in Santa Barbara, California.
The committee created new guidelines to accommodate the seeding of 12 teams, a practice that will begin with the 1999 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships.
The committee also recommended a number of host sites to the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, including Boise State University as host for the 2000 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships.
The committee also proposed that the following institutions host 1999 regional competition: Region 1, Oregon State University; Region 2, Utah State University; Region 3, University of Nebraska, Lincoln; Region 4, Louisiana State University; Region 5, Pennsylvania State University; and Region 6, West Virginia University.
In other actions, the committee also will ask the cabinet to approve finances to cover transportation and per diem for the entire squad participating in the team championships regardless of whether an individual student-athlete competes.
The committee also proposed to provide reimbursement to institutions for regional participation. The committee is recommending that the cabinet add one day of per diem for teams competing at the national championships.
