Exempted Contests Subcommittee certifies 53 events for 1998-99
Fifty-three events have been certified for the 1998-99 academic year by the Exempted Contests Subcommittee of the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet.
The subcommittee made the recommendations during its June 17-18 meeting in Marco Island, Florida, and forwarded the list of certified events to the cabinet for final approval.
The total of 53 certified events is seven more than the 46 certified for 1997-98. A total of 63 applications were received. Nine events were denied certification and one was deferred.
The subcommittee also reviewed the application process and noted that future applications will include a request for additional information such as the event's written team selection policies and a copy of the title sponsorship agreement. In addition, if the event has a registered mark, that mark will need to be held by an NCAA member.
Following is the complete list of events certified for the 1998-99 academic year. The events are listed by sport, with dates, sites and host institution/organization in addition to the number of teams in the event (if available) and the type of certification.
