WOTY nominations due June 19
Nominations for this year's NCAA Woman of the Year Award are due by June 19 to Cynthia Van Matre at the NCAA national office.
Nomination folders were mailed to member institutions in April. Completed folders must include information regarding the nominee's athletics and academic accomplishments, as well as a 200-word personal statement from the applicant regarding her commitment to balancing academics, athletics, and service and leadership; as well as an assessment of the impact that involvement in intercollegiate athletics has had upon the nominee's life.
Persons making nominations are reminded to consider the diversity of the school's student-athlete population in order to ensure that a wide cross-section of student-athletes are considered for this award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors and recognizes senior student-athletes from all NCAA member schools who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, and service and leadership.
The eighth annual NCAA Woman of the Year Award dinner will be held October 18 in Indianapolis. Fifty-two winners, including each state, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, will be honored.
Former winners include Mary Beth Riley, track and field, Canisius College; Catherine Byrne, swimming and diving, University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Nnenna Lynch, cross country/track and field, Villanova University; Tanya Jones, track and field, University of Arizona; Rebecca Lobo, basketball, University of Connecticut; Billie Fletcher, volleyball, University of Nebraska, Lincoln; and Lisa Ann Coole, swimming and diving, University of Georgia.
