Division III presidents seek nominations

Nominations are being sought to fill three upcoming vacancies on the Division III Presidents Council. Terms will begin in January 1999.

Two existing terms will be expiring in January 1999, including those of Judith L. Kuipers, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and vice-chair of the Presidents Council, and David L. Beckley, president of Rust College. Their successors will serve four-year terms.

Nominations also are being solicited for the position of Robert W. Neff, president of Juniata College, who is retiring. Neff's successor will serve out his term, which expires in January 2000, and then be eligible for re-election.

An eligible nominee must be an NCAA Division III institution CEO who meets at least one of the following requirements: be a woman; be from region 2 (New York and Pennsylvania); be from a public institution; or be an ethnic minority.

The Division III Presidents Council is composed of 11 members. It must include: at least two CEOs from institutions with an undergraduate enrollment of 4,000 or more; at least two CEOs from institutions with an undergraduate enrollment of 2,000 or less; at least two CEOs representing public institutions; at least two CEOs representing private institutions; at least three CEOs who are women; at least three CEOs who are men; at least two CEOs who are ethnic minorities; at least two CEOs who are not ethnic minorities; at least two CEOs from each geographical region; and three CEOs who serve at large.

Nominations previously submitted within the last year need not be resubmitted to be considered.

The Presidents Council subcommittee on nominations will review all nominees and make recommendations by the August 11 Presidents Council meeting.

Nomination letters of interest are due by July 10 to Daniel T. Dutcher, NCAA chief of staff for Division III (ddutcher@ncaa.org) or Bridget M. Belgiovine, NCAA assistant chief of staff for Division III (bbelgiovine@ncaa.org).
