NACDA to host annual convention

33rd meeting to key on intercollegiate athletics

Athletics administrators from across North America will gather to discuss important issues in intercollegiate athletics at the 33rd annual convention of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

The convention will be June 14-17 at Marriott's Marco Island Resort and Golf Club in Marco Island, Florida.

More than 1,000 athletics directors, administrators and conference commissioners from all levels of collegiate competition are expected to attend the convention.

The convention's keynote address will be delivered by David Falk, chair and chief executive officer of Falk Associates Management Enterprises.

Other highlights include a session on Campus Pals, delivered by Lynn Swann, announcing NACDA's partnership in a mentoring program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and an presentation from NCAA President Cedric W. Dempsey.

Discussion topics include division breakout sessions on gambling and student-athlete behavior/visibility/accountability; access to championships; and gender equity and ethics.

Also featured will be the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon, sponsored by the U.S. Olympic Committee on Monday, June 15.

In addition to the presentation of NACDA's highest honor, the James J. Corbett Memorial Award, to James Frank, commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the NACDA/NIT Athletics Directors Award and the Collegiate Olympic Coaches Recognition Awards also will be announced.

Also, the four Sears Directors' Cup Trophies, the Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarship Awards and the NACDA Preseason Games Postgraduate Scholarship Awards will be presented.

Dan Hicks of NBC Sports is the ceremony's featured speaker, and Dan Fouts of ABC Sports will serve as the luncheon emcee.

The convention will conclude with a speech by Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic.
