High-school federation to join NCAA in Indianapolis
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has announced that it will move to Indianapolis in early 2000, at which time it will share space in the NCAA's new headquarters facility.
An agreement was reached recently among Indianapolis officials, the NCAA and the NFHS to temporarily house the high-school federation on the first floor of the new facility. The NCAA is scheduled to occupy the new building in August 1999.
"The Indianapolis leaders have a vision that is consistent with the philosophy of the NFHS and its member state associations," said Robert F. Kanaby, NFHS executive director.
"We also believe that by relocating to Indianapolis, we can continue our ever-increasing relationship with the NCAA. Great progress has been made on many common issues, including the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse, and we want that strong bond between the national organizations for college and high-school athletics to continue. We appreciate the efforts of Cedric Dempsey (NCAA president) and his staff for their assistance in this relocation project, as well as the leadership of the Indiana Sports Corporation and the Indianapolis community."
The NFHS plans to construct a building of its own in Indianapolis. Dempsey said that in the interim, its offices will be located on the first floor of the NCAA's new building, probably in the northeast corner.
"We share many common issues with the Federation and it will be mutually beneficial to be located so near to them," Dempsey said.
