Division III Men's Golf

Methodist in sync to win team title

Event: 1998 Division III Men's Golf Championships.

Overview: Methodist is top-ranked and has won seven of the last eight championships--and this year doesn't look to be much different. This year's team has youth and experience. Freshman Chad Collins heads a Methodist lineup that features last year's individual champion Brion McLaughlin and Chris Eaves, who finished second at this year's Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Methodist, winners of six consecutive conference titles, has six first-place finishes in 10 tournaments this season .... Challengers include Greensboro, who finished second to Methodist in the DIAC championships. David Horne took home individual title honors for Greensboro. This year mirrors last year in that Methodist and Greensboro are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 and finished that way in the DIAC championships .... Other contenders include Guliford, Allegheny, Skidmore and Otterbein.

Field: A total of 120 participants from six districts will compete for the team and individual championships.

Dates and site: Emory will host the championships at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia, May 12-15.
