Divisions II and III Women's Golf
Young championship to feature old foes in battle for team title
Event: 1998 Divisions II and III Women's Golf Championships.
Overview: This marks the event's third year, and even though the tournament is relatively new, the top teams remain the same. Methodist won the first tournament in 1996 and will compete this year with new coach Kim Kinser and a group of young talent. Methodist's starting lineup includes one freshman, a sophomore and three juniors. Junior Tracey Gage is the team leader and top golfer for the Lady Monarchs .... Other contenders include defending champion Lynn, Rollins, Longwood, Hardin-Simmons, Florida Southern and Simpson. 1996 medalist Shanna Nagy of Florida Southern looks to be a top contender for the individual title. Carla Roberson of Longwood and Shruti Khanna of Rollins will challenge. Freshmen Alejandra Pastor of Methodist and Meredith Hare of Hardin-Simmons have had excellent first years and hope to have an impact at this year's championships.
Field: Twenty-seven golfers from Division II and 36 from Division III will make up the championships field of 63 participants.
Dates and site: Grand Valley State will host the championships May 12-15 in Allendale, Michigan.
